Marion and Ellen are my 2nd Great Grandparents on my mother's side of the family. Keith descends from Marion and Ellen's son Paul, and I descend from their daughter Pearl Davis. That would make Keith my second cousin once removed.
Keith is an avid researcher, photographer and loves to fish. The photo below is a prime example of his fishing prowess. It was taken during a recent trip to Lake Taneycomo in Taney County, Missouri. By the way, Keith reports that his trophy trout measured 17 ¾ inches, and weighed in at 2 pounds, 8 ounces--and that’s no fish story!
What amazes both Keith and his wife Susan is how much he resembles his Great Grandfather Marion Keith Davis, as the photo below of Marion and Ellen demonstrates. I do believe there's a resemblance!
While getting acquainted, both Keith and I learned we can help each other barrel through our research brick walls. For instance, he didn’t have a photo of Marion and Ellen, but I did (photo above). As for myself, I was seeking the dates of birth and death of my Grand Aunt, Henrietta E. Wright (b. Jun 8, 1908 d. Aug 6, 1985). Keith was able to find that information while visiting the Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri earlier this summer. We have also shared photos, and he has helped me identify individuals in photos I was unsure about.
Expect more blog posts in the future as we team up to unravel other family mysteries. Looks like I have another name to add to the Christmas card list, I am happy to report!
As usual Andrew you never fail to amaze me with your magnitude of accuracy and your love of family. I am not so sure about my photo but hey you hit the description of me right on.
ReplyDeleteI have always found it so hard to research ancestors and quite honestly I about gave up finding out anything about Marion Keith until we stumbled upon each other. The help that you have provided me pushed me out of a slump and has made me move forward. I hope that some day we can meet in Ozark/Nixa/Branson so we can explore our history of the area. There is still a couple of cemeteries we can visit, document and photograph. Againn cousin, thank you for the photos and help that you have given me. I love your blogs. Pssst it feels good to be able to call you cousin after not knowing any other family of the Davis side for all of my life.
Have you been able to figure out where Marion was born?
ReplyDeleteI haven’t had any luck in figuring out where Marion Davis was born. The Census records for 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 all indicate he was born in Ohio. However, the 1930 Census says Indiana. His obituary in a Springfield newspaper from July 12, 1930 doesn’t shed any light on the mystery either. It’s interesting to note that Marion’s son Paul Davis, the informant for his death certificate named Indiana as the birthplace of Marion’s father and mother.
